Cryogenic Butterfly Valve

Category:

Cryogenic butterfly valves provide compact flow isolation in pipelines carrying LNG, liquid nitrogen, liquid argon and other liquefied gases. As a Cryogenic Butterfly Valve Manufacturer in Canada, Valves Only Canada supplies valves with stainless steel construction and cryogenic sealing arrangements for service down to −196°C.

The extended stem separates operating components from cold piping and accommodates pipeline insulation. Double-offset and triple-offset designs reduce disc-to-seat rubbing, while suitable sealing materials accommodate contraction during cooling. Liquid oxygen service requires oxygen-compatible materials and dedicated cleaning procedures.

Features

  • Compact quarter-turn operation
  • Extended stem for cryogenic installations
  • Soft-seated or metal-seated construction
  • Reduced seat friction through offset geometry
  • Manual and automated operation
  • Sealing performance verified through low-temperature testing

Standards and Testing

Applicable standards include API 609 for butterfly valve construction and ASME B16.34 for pressure-temperature requirements. Flange connections may follow ASME B16.5, ASME B16.47 or EN 1092-1, with ASME B16.25 for butt-weld ends.

Inspection and pressure testing may follow API 598. ISO 28921-1 may be specified for low-temperature design and production testing. Cryogenic testing verifies operation and seat leakage at the required temperature.
