Suction Diffuser

Protecting pumps from debris while maintaining consistent flow at the suction inlet is essential for efficient operation in industrial piping systems. Valves Only Canada supplies suction diffusers in Canada for  chilled-water systems, cooling-water circuits, and industrial pumping applications that require inlet flow conditioning and filtration. A suction diffuser combines a strainer, a flow-conditioning element, and a compact housing to help remove unwanted particles before they enter the pump. Depending on the design, it can also help stabilize the flow entering the pump and reduce the need for separate suction-side components. Body construction, screen mesh, connection size, and pressure rating are selected according to the pump requirements and system operating conditions.

Features

  • Integrated strainer to capture debris before it reaches the pump.
  • Flow-conditioning elements to help improve the flow profile at the pump inlet.
  • Compact design that can reduce the need for separate suction-side components.
  • Removable screen for inspection, cleaning, and maintenance.
  • Available with different screen perforations or mesh sizes, depending on requirements.
  • Blowdown or drain connections available on selected models.
  • Flanged or other connection configurations, depending on design.
  • Body materials selected for compatibility with the circulating fluid.
  • Designed to help protect pump impellers and internal components from debris.

Standards and Testing

Suction diffusers should be designed and selected according to the applicable piping system, pressure rating, connection type, and project requirements. ASME B16.5 covers pipe flanges and flanged fittings within its specified size and pressure-class limits. ASME B16.34 may be relevant to certain pressure-containing valve designs
