Air Release Valve

An Air Release Valve Manufacturer in Canada supplies automatic air release valves for water transmission and distribution pipelines where air can accumulate during normal operation. Installed at high points in the pipeline, these valves automatically discharge accumulated air while the pipeline remains under pressure.

The valve uses a float-operated mechanism. When air collects inside the valve, the float moves down and opens the air outlet. As the accumulated air is released and water enters the valve chamber, the float rises and closes the outlet. This allows air to be continuously removed during normal pipeline operation without interrupting water flow.

Air Release Valves for Canadian Water Systems

Air can accumulate at high points in water transmission and distribution pipelines, particularly where the pipeline profile changes. Ontario\'s drinking-water design guidance specifically calls for air release and vacuum-relief valves at high points where air can accumulate and references AWWA C512 for these valves.

For Canadian water infrastructure, air release valves are therefore an important part of pipeline air management. Automatic air release valves continuously discharge accumulated air while the pipeline is operating under pressure, helping maintain the intended flow passage through the pipeline.

The size, pressure, temperature and material ranges above come from the scope of AWWA C512 for air-release valves. The standard covers ½-in. through 6-in. air-release valves with metallic bodies and covers, maximum design pressure of 300 psi, and liquid temperatures from above freezing to 125°F (52°C).

Standards and Testing

AWWA C512 is the principal North American standard for air-release, air/vacuum and combination air valves used in water and wastewater service. It establishes requirements covering valve materials, design, testing, inspection, marking and other product requirements.

For water-supply applications using the European standard framework, EN 1074-4 specifies fitness-for-purpose requirements and verification tests for air valves.
